Please, Please Let This Be the Death of iPhone Punditry

After flagellating themselves into a state of near hysteria given the longer-than-usual gap between new devices, the cottage industry of unabashed iPhone pundits were quick to wail and gnash their teeth at what they perceived to be a lackluster new iPhone offering from Apple. A quick recap of the chief complaints reads like this, “It’s not ____________ enough” (insert: new, magical, exciting). Has Apple simply become a victim of their own success and sense of secrecy surrounding product announcements, or has the segment of the tech media breathlessly covering Apple products become the journalistic equivalent of a screaming, fainting Beatles crowd?
