I don't in any way view Merritt's songs as misogynist or pseudo-feminist. I do (like you, if I'm reading you right) find it interesting that he engages with a lot of misogynist and pseudo-feminist concepts (cat-fighting; female empowerment through sexual exploitation) and then transforms them into *commentary on* these concepts through his sarcasm and cynicism. I'm sorry if my post was confusing; I was attempting to bring in some concepts I had written on heavily earlier (pseduo-feminist and girl-fight anthems) and compare them with the Magnetic Fields' (markedly different!) approach to these genres.
