Get, get down, 9-1-1 is a joke in St. Louis town, and a Death in the Funny Papers
Remember Brett Darrow? He’s the St. Louis area lad who filmed St. George police officer…er, make that now former St. George police officer, eminent dumbass, and aspiring rapper James Kuehnlein being, well, a fucking pig. Without rehashing all the details of the case, Darrow was accosted by the now former officer in a commuter lot around 2 in the morning, claiming he was waiting for a friend to bring him the cell phone he had left at the friend’s house. Former Sgt. Kuehnlein has paid for his stupidity with his job, and Darrow will likely be able to replace his beater Altima with a nice car from the proceeds of the suit he will inevitably file against the city of St. George and its police department. Anyone else find the humor in this happening in a town named after the saint whose lore includes slaying a dragon?
If only the story ended here…. now the finest kind at St. Louis CopTalk, apparently a web resource for the St. Louis area fucking pig community, have published Darrow’s address and made some fairly convincing death threats against him. Add to this the fact that the area police have started staking out his sleepy little cul de sac street, and I think it’s fair to say that Darrow needs to find someplace else to live. Any people wonder why citizens hate the police?
I don’t know how many of you out there are regular readers of the comics page, but Tom Batiuk’s Funky Winkerbean is tackling the heaviest of all issues: death. Lisa Moore, a longtime cast member of the comic, loses her battle with cancer. Lisa had previously battled cancer, but it was Batiuk’s own experience with cancer that prompted him to revive the storyline. I haven’t kept up with the fictional graduates of Westview High these last few years, but I found Batiuk’s treatment of the matter moving and powerful.
